Gaza Horror: Israeli Airstrikes Kill Dozens, Including Children in School Shelter and Doctor’s Family

Strikes on homes and a school shelter, Gaza Horror: Israeli Airstrikes Kill Dozens, Including Children in School Shelter and Doctor’s Family. At least 54 Palestinians, including many children, were killed in a wave of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip overnight, with the Fahmi Al-Jargawi School in Gaza City becoming the latest symbol of civilian suffering in the months-long war.

The school, which was sheltering hundreds of displaced families, was hit in what witnesses describe as an inferno that turned classrooms into makeshift graves. Charred bodies of children were seen being pulled from the rubble, according to eyewitnesses and Gaza’s civil defense authorities.

Gaza School Bombing: At Least 20 Killed, Mostly Children

The strike on the Fahmi Al-Jargawi School claimed at least 20 lives, most of them young children, as reported by Mahmud Bassal, spokesman for Gaza’s Civil Defence. Over 60 people were injured, many suffering severe burns.

“Flames were everywhere. I saw charred bodies lying on the ground,” said local resident Rami Rafiq, whose son fainted from the trauma. Medical staff from Shifa and al-Ahli hospitals confirmed the casualties.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that the school was being used as a Hamas and Islamic Jihad command center and said “numerous steps” were taken to minimize civilian harm. But the high child death toll has ignited international outrage and calls for accountability.

Jabalia Airstrike Adds to Death Toll: 19 More Killed

In a separate airstrike, 19 Palestinians were killed in Jabalia, northern Gaza, when an Israeli missile hit a residential building. Dr. Fadel el-Naim of al-Ahli Hospital confirmed that many victims were women and children. The IDF has yet to provide a statement on the intended target of this strike.

The Gaza Health Ministry said over 53,939 people, including at least 16,500 children, have been killed since Israel launched its military campaign in October 2023 following the deadly Hamas-led October 7 attack.

Family Tragedy: Nine Children of Gaza Doctors Killed in Khan Younis Airstrike

In Khan Younis, a heartbreaking incident saw nine children from a single family killed in their home. Their father, Dr. Hamdi al-Najjar, remains in critical condition in Nasser Hospital, suffering injuries to his brain, lungs, arm, and kidney.

His wife, Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, was working at the hospital when the attack occurred.

Their surviving child, 11-year-old Adam, is injured but in stable condition. The names of the children killed—Yahya, Rakan, Raslan, Gebran, Eve, Rival, Sayden, Luqman, and Sidra—are now etched in Gaza’s ever-growing list of young victims.

“This family’s suffering is unspeakable,” said Dr. Milena Angelova-Chee, a Bulgarian doctor working at Nasser Hospital. “We are doing everything we can for Hamdi, but we’re working under extreme conditions. Many staff haven’t eaten properly in days.”

Red Cross Staff Killed as Civilian Toll Rises

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed the deaths of two staff members in Israeli airstrikes. Ibrahim Eid, a weapon contamination officer, and Ahmad Abu Hilal, a security guard, were killed in their homes in Khan Younis.

The ICRC called their deaths “a tragic reflection of the intolerable civilian death toll in Gaza.” The ICRC renewed its call for a humanitarian ceasefire and protection of aid workers and facilities.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens Amidst Airstrikes

According to the World Food Programme (WFP), 500,000 people in Gaza are on the verge of famine. Despite a partial lifting of Israel’s blockade, only 388 aid trucks entered Gaza last week well below the 500–600 trucks per day the UN says are needed.

“The looting of aid trucks is being done by poor, desperate civilians,” said WFP Director Cindy McCain, who urged Israel to scale up food access immediately. Operations in Gaza have been severely disrupted, with many bakeries halting bread production due to security risks.

Hospital workers, including those at Nasser Hospital, report severe food shortages, often surviving on date biscuits or going hungry.

Israel’s Renewed Offensive: 200 Strikes in 48 Hours

The Israeli military has launched 200 airstrikes in 48 hours, targeting areas like Daraj, Jabalia, Deir el-Balah, and Khan Younis, as part of what it calls an intensified effort to destroy Hamas infrastructure.

IDF Chief Eyal Zamir, visiting troops in Khan Younis, claimed Hamas has “lost most of its capabilities,” but promised the war “will not be endless.” Yet, 81% of Gaza is now either under evacuation orders or designated as no-go zones, and displaced Palestinians say they have nowhere to go.

Aid Delivery Initiative Falters Over Neutrality Concerns

Controversy has also surrounded the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a US-backed aid initiative. Its executive director, Jake Wood, resigned, citing the project’s failure to maintain neutrality and independence.

Despite the resignation and backlash from UN agencies, the GHF announced it would begin delivering 300 million meals over the next 90 days. Aid groups remain skeptical, citing Israeli control over delivery routes and the exclusion of experienced humanitarian organizations.

International Condemnation Mounts: Calls for Ceasefire Grow

In Madrid, leaders from 20 countries and international organizations met to discuss the worsening crisis. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares called for a full arms embargo on Israel and unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza.

He described Gaza as “humanity’s open wound,” echoing growing demands for an immediate ceasefire and war crimes investigations.

Several human rights organizations have condemned recent Israeli actions, especially the targeting of civilian shelters and hospitals. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have renewed calls for international intervention and accountability.

Final Thoughts: Gaza’s Deepening Despair

From burned schoolchildren to entire families wiped out, Gaza’s civilian toll continues to mount. As Israel maintains that it is targeting militants embedded among civilians, the international community sees a spiraling humanitarian catastrophe with tens of thousands of lives lost, famine looming, and relief access crippled.

With nearly 90% of Gaza’s population displaced, and aid still grossly insufficient, the pressure for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian access grows more urgent by the day.
